Raphael CENDO studied piano and composition at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, where he graduated in 2000. He joined the composition class at the Paris National Conservatory in 2003 and is currently taking the annual course in composition and computer music at IRCAM, which he completed in 2006. He received his education from Allain Gaussin, Brian Ferneyhough, Fausto Romitelli and Philippe Manoury.
He wrote works for internationally renowned ensembles such as L'Itinéraire, the National Orchestra of the Ile de France, the Diotima Quartet, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ictus, Cairn, MusikFabrik, the Alternance ensemble, the Nouvel Ensemble Modern, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Radio Orchestra, conducted by Miquel Bernat, Alain Billard, Daniel Kawka, Jean Deroyer, Pascal Rophé, Guillaume Bourgogne, Peter Rundel, Georges-Élie Octors and Lorraine Vaillancourt. Many of these pieces are performed during major events such as "Lille, European Capital of Culture" at the Lille Opera, concerts Tremplin Centre Georges Pompidou, the Mite festivals in Milan, the Venice Biennale, Radio France in Montpellier veu Nouvelles in Royaumont, Présences de Radio France, Música d'Estrasburg, Ars Musica in Brussels, Why Note in Dijon, and in Germany, Darmstadt and Donaueschingen.
In 2007, Rafael CENDO received the Prize of Hope from the Francisco and Mica Salabert Foundation, the International Composition Competition of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. In 2008, he was professor of composition at the Nanterre Conservatory. He graduated from the National Conservatory of Paris, in composition, analysis and orchestration.
From 2009 to 2011 he was resident at the Villa Medici, Academy of France in Rome. In 2012, he was a guest professor at the Darmstadt summer courses and at Voix nouvelles in Royaumont. He received the Pierre Cardin Prize 2009 from the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2011 and the Hervé Dugardin SACEM Prize. Raphael CENDO currently lives and works in Berlin.
